About ALB Tutoring

ALB Tutoring is a virtual, comprehensive educational organization that teaches students to Always Learn Better™️.

We are an ensemble of educational therapists and educators who create custom plans based on students’ individual histories to meet defined objectives. The strategy is then implemented to reach academic and personal goals, boost confidence, and increase overall development. Our specialists help students become self-aware, understand their unique learning styles, leverage their strengths, address their areas for growth, and improve executive functioning.

This training is combined with academic tutoring, standardized test preparation, and college admission guidance to yield positive results and noticeable improvement. Students thrive personally and academically, becoming empowered to stay engaged, build self-efficacy, and reach outlined goals.

Our educational methods transcend the traditional; we weave conversations and social-emotional learning that provoke identity, autonomy, and skill development into our overall guidance. This is how we teach students to Always Learn Better™.

Role description

This is a remote, contract role for a Test Prep Tutor. The tutor works closely with high school and graduate students to deliver targeted standardized test preparation — building content knowledge, test-taking strategies, and confidence to help students reach their score goals.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver targeted test prep instruction (SAT, ACT, GMAT, and/or GRE) to high school and graduate students in the United States, most specifically in the New York/Tri-State Area.

  • Support students throughout their test preparation journey, including building content knowledge, test-taking strategies, and the confidence to perform at their best on exam day.

  • Create and customize test prep plans tailored to each student's diagnostic results, target scores, and exam timeline.

  • Use gradual release teaching to build students' independent application of skills and strategies.

  • Scaffold different types of learners at all stages of their academic progress: students with processing delays, working memory deficits, and other minor/moderate Specific Learning Disorders.

  • Help students recognize and develop strategies to work through test anxiety, building confidence and motivation throughout the preparation process.

  • Track students’ progression in scores and performance: monitor diagnostic results, practice section and test scores, and session progress to adjust instruction and keep students and families informed.

  • Communicate proactively and professionally with students, families, and the ALB Tutoring team; build supportive relationships and maintain high standards of professionalism.

  • Maintain an accurate calendar in Teachworks, complete student trimester evaluations, and meet regularly with ALB Tutoring leadership to discuss student progress.

Who you are

  • A teacher, tutor, or graduate student (Master or Doctoral level) with strong expertise in standardized test content and teaching it — you have hands-on experience preparing students for the SAT, ACT, GMAT, or GRE and understand the specific strategies and skills each test demands.

  • Warm, engaging, and fun to work with — you bring energy and positivity to every session and know how to keep students motivated, calm, and confident throughout their test prep journey.

  • Passionate about supporting student success and enhancing their confidence – You recognize and acknowledge students’ individuality and needs to help them achieve their personal potential.

  • Cognitively flexible – When working with students from different academic and personal backgrounds and learning styles, you understand when they struggle and pivot to explain material in multiple ways.

  • A YES person – You are passionate about and are motivated to find a way to solve challenges when plans A and B do not work.

  • Resourceful and a lifelong learner – You seek out opportunities to learn, like strategies or techniques to help better connect with and support students. This includes doing research, reading, and asking for help in evolving as an educator and professional.

  • An enthusiastic communicator, collaborator, and team member.

  • Organized and meticulous – You are attentive to detail and have a plan for each session and keep notes, calendar, and documents organized.
